These approaches are meant to reduce mental load, not add to it:
One-task-at-a-time framing. Instead of “organize paperwork,” try “sort papers for 10 minutes” or “open the mail.” When the time is up, you’re done—success is defined by starting, not finishing.
Soft deadlines, not hard ones. Choose language like “by the end of the week” or “sometime today,” rather than specific dates and times. This creates structure without rigidity.
Anchor tasks to existing moments. Pair a task with something already happening: “After morning coffee, I’ll make one phone call.” “While dinner is in the oven, I’ll schedule one appointment.”
Use visual containment. Keep a short list—three items max—on a sticky note or index card. When the list is done, you stop. Tomorrow gets a new card.
